The MitJet towards the finish without issues
Becx rewards mechanics with strong performance after sleepless night
That Michiel Becx and Edwin Kuijpers are at the finish line of the second stage is completely the merit of the hard work from the mechanics. After the gearbox problems of yesterday, the team has worked all night to prepare the car in time. They had to start as the last car with the MitJet and they manage to drive, without any risks, towards the 58th position.
“I am proud of our guys!” says Becx. “We are a very small team, but we did it. We wanted to reach the finish without problems so the mechanics will have an easy night. And we succeeded, mostly because we stayed out of trouble this stage was good for the MitJet Off-Road. Serious dunes and steep down hills on different surfaces and surroundings. We haven’t been stuck once. Not just the guys in the bivouac did a good job, also Edwin was great. I am very happy with this team.”
Becx was just in time at the start. “We had to leave the bivouac at 7 AM and the gearbox was fit at 6:45AM. So it was close, but it worked. And now we are in San Juan de Marcona. Tomorrow we will drive to Arequipa with a stage of 331 kilometres. Again a serious test.”
